A lot of homeowners wonder how termites get into their home. It's actually simpler than you may think. Even in newer homes, the easiest way for termites to enter is through cracks in the exterior—cracks in your foundation, siding, loose shingles, or cracks around the seals of your windows all provide easy access for termites to get into your home.
Termites can fit through a crack as small as 1/32 of an inch wide. Moist areas around your home can also create weaknesses in the exterior of your home.
Termites are attracted to moisture and can easily get into your home through the compromised area. Be sure to address and carefully monitor your home for cracks, moist areas, or any excess wood that may come up against your home, attracting termites—stacks of firewood, for example.
