How to check your hotel room for bed bugs.

Start with the headboard. Look in between any design patterns. And if you can move the headboard, check behind and underneath too.

Next, the bed frame. Inspect all crevices, joints, and any other small cracks or holes.

Last, check the bedding and mattress, including the inside and outside of the pillowcases, duvet covers, and fitted sheets. Pay close attention to the mattress seams and lift it to look underneath.

Look inside the drawers, especially along joints and handles. If possible, move the furniture to inspect behind and underneath it. Also, check any lamps or other decorative items. Check both where the baseboard meets the wall and where it meets the carpet. It wouldn't hurt to do a quick inspection of the carpet pile as well.

Remove the cushions and check above and below them. Then inspect the seams, zippers, and crevices. If there are removable covers, take a look inside.

Put your luggage in the bathroom while you look the luggage rack over. Be sure to check where the webbing wraps around the frame and along the stand joints.

To inspect a hotel for bed bugs, start by checking these five places: headboard, bed frame, bedding and mattress, drawers, and any cushions. Watch our video for a visual guide on places to check in hotel rooms for bed bugs.
