Hi this is Stan from Terminix here to answer another one of your great mosquito questions. Today we're going to talk about why mosquitoes bite.

The first thing you should know is that it's only the female mosquitoes that bite, and the reason that a female mosquito takes blood is because she requires a protein source in order to develop her eggs.

Now worldwide, we have somewhere around 3,000 different types of mosquitoes and about 175 occurring in the United States, but did you know that most of those mosquitoes will never bite humans? They tend to bite large animals, birds ‐ some mosquitoes only bite amphibians.

Now once that female mosquito takes your delicious blood, she can produce anywhere from about 50 to 300 eggs. And within just a couple of days, all of those eggs are going to hatch, perhaps in your yard, which can then create a mosquito problem for you.

So if you think that you might have a mosquito problem around your property, give us a call, and thanks for watching.
