Hi, Paul Curtis with Terminix here. We all know rodents can be a real pest, but here are some interesting facts about rodents. Most species of mice have free access to water thanks to their environmental conditions, but they do not actually need to drink water to survive. Typically, mice can attain all their hydration needs from the food that they consume, even when eating very dry materials such as grains and cereals.

The vast majority of rodent species are highly social and do not thrive when living alone. Most species of rodents, including mice and rats, form complex social networks with a clearly defined pecking order and strong social bonds.

Rodents are defined by their large twin incisors, which grow constantly and require a constant source of chewing materials in order to help them remain at a comfortable length. The teeth of even the smallest rats and mice can grow an average of 15 cm per year, and thanks to their long, incredibly strong teeth, rodents can chew through materials such as plastic, metal, and even brick and concrete.

Studies have proven that rats are very intelligent. You could even teach a pet rat to learn tricks, and their memory is impeccable. Once a foraging rat finds a path to food, it will never forget it. Their intelligence is just one more reason to be cautious of rats. For more information about rats or any other pest, please reach out to us.
